Richard: Let’s get back to your system. Continue with that.
Lynda: Let me just finish the system, my system for how I get clients. First, I connect with people regularly. Many of them do not turn into anything, but some of them do. I post my blog post.
My goal always is to get people to sign up for my newsletter. That is my number one goal. My goal is to get them to send me an email. That is kind of like putting up their hands, saying, “Hey, I want to know more.”
When they send me an email, I send them a free report. I send them an email that says, “Can I sign you up for my free blog post?” Some of them do not do it on their own. People are lazy. They are busy.
I send them a link. It takes me about an extra half a minute. I send the link, and then they usually click on it. If I waited for them, they might get distracted and not do it.
Richard: Is your blog post different from your newsletter?
Lynda: I only have a blog post. I do not have a newsletter anymore. My blog post has become my newsletter. You can have either one.
Of those people that raise their hand, I have now started a dialogue with them. Of those people that go onto my blog post or agree to connect with me, a percentage of them want the special report. Some, a smaller percentage obviously, become clients.
That is actually the system. Connect and try to take it one step further. Try to send them something of value. Keep connecting with them through your ongoing marketing, your newsletter or blog post. Then, some become clients. That is the system.
Richard: Do people on your newsletter/blog post roll become clients by contacting you? Do you have special offers from time to time that pull people out of the woodwork?
Lynda: I should do special offers from time to time, but that actually has not been effective for me. I offer a free 20 minute consultation. That actually gets me a fair amount of conversations, of which some turn into clients. Sometimes, I waste my time. Obviously, that is going to happen.
After they’ve seen a few of my blog posts, and realize I understand their problems, is mostly when they contact me. It is when they need something. Usually, they put up their hand after a little while.
Richard: Not only has LinkedIn gotten you all these clients, but the clients are coming to you – you don’t have to run after them.
Lynda: Exactly.
Richard: That is amazing and a relief at the same time.
Lynda: I have to say it has revolutionized my business. You are probably in the same situation, as well as the people who hear this.
Just think, I used to spend hours every week going to local networking events. Think of how much time and money it takes to belong to networking groups. I also did not get any business. I would go months without getting any business.
Now I spend literally 10 to 15 minutes on the phone without having to get dressed, pay money or go anywhere; and I get clients.
Richard: What is the next step for you, in terms of LinkedIn? How do you increase what you are doing and amplify it?
Lynda: For me, I am actually now being more targeted, going after people I want to connect with. I did that to some extent, but I am going to do it even more now. What I am actually going to do is do what you do. I will offer interviews with CEO’s of companies or people high up in companies.
That is my new tactic for LinkedIn. It is to continually look at good groups. There are new groups forming all the time. Look for the people you really want to connect with. Then find a way to connect with them. Find a reason to connect with them.
